Your Hip Isn't the Problem. Your Pelvis Is.

By Dr. Zach Ayala | Empower Spine & Body | Powdersville, SC

You have been stretching your hip flexors for six months. You have foam rolled, done mobility work, added banded exercises before every training session. Your squat depth still hasn't changed. Your hip still pinches at the bottom. And every time you push hard on Hyrox training or a heavy squat cycle, something in that hip reminds you it's still there.

Here's the truth: you have been solving the wrong problem.

The Pelvis Is the Foundation of Every Lower Body Movement You Do. That's Not an Opinion. That's Biomechanics.

Every squat, every lunge, every deadlift, every burpee you perform starts at the pelvis. When the pelvis is misaligned — rotated, unleveled, or restricted at the sacroiliac joint — your hip joint is forced to move through a mechanically compromised range of motion. No amount of stretching will fully correct this because the limitation is not in the muscle. It is in the joint mechanics above it.

This is why athletes can foam roll and stretch the same tissues for months with zero lasting change. You are treating a compensation pattern without correcting the structural problem creating it.

What We Actually Find in Athletes With Hip Pain

In our Powdersville office we see this constantly in Hyrox athletes, CrossFitters, and competitive lifters. Sacroiliac joint dysfunction from repetitive asymmetrical loading is the most common finding. It produces restriction in the hip joint on the affected side and a compensatory overload on the opposite side — which is why the pain often switches or spreads over time.

The second most common finding is pelvic unleveling — one iliac crest sitting higher than the other — that alters leg length mechanics and changes how force is distributed through every bilateral movement. Your body is extraordinarily good at compensating for this. Your PRs are not.

Specific Gonstead adjustments to the pelvis and lumbar spine correct the joint mechanics your hip needs to move freely. This is precision work — identifying the exact segment through our five-criteria analysis and correcting it specifically, not a general lower back adjustment hoping for the best.

Why Trigenics Is the Missing Layer

If you have stretched the same tight hip flexor for a year and it is still tight the next morning, that is your nervous system talking — not your tissue. Chronically tight muscles are frequently neurologically protective. Your brain is keeping them locked down because they are compensating for instability or misalignment somewhere else in the chain.

Trigenics directly resets that neuromuscular pattern. It is not another stretch and it is not soft tissue work. It is reprogramming the signal between your nervous system and the muscle — so the tightness actually resolves instead of returning after every session.

For athletes whose mobility has plateaued despite consistent work, Trigenics is frequently the piece that unlocks the progress that structural correction alone cannot achieve.

Decompression and LED Therapy for Training Volume

High volume training accumulates compressive stress in the lumbar spine and hip joints over time. Decompression therapy creates space and relieves that accumulated load. LED light therapy supports cellular repair in irritated hip and lumbar tissue — accelerating recovery between sessions instead of letting irritation compound week over week into the kind of chronic issue that eventually forces you off the platform.

Stop Training Around It. Correct It.

The athletes who perform at their highest level long term are the ones who correct structural problems instead of building compensation strategies around them. Every week you train around a pelvic misalignment is another week of reinforcing faulty mechanics that are limiting your ceiling.

Fix the foundation. Everything built on top of it gets better.

If your squat depth, hip pinching, or lunge pain hasn't moved no matter how much mobility work you do, the cause is structural. Call Empower Spine & Body at (864) 478-8758 or schedule here: empowersnb.com/contact. We treat athletes across Powdersville, Easley, Piedmont, and Anderson.
